UNCANNY BLUE THINGS

So last night I got an email from Stephanie, a friend I met because of good things going on with my book BLUE. (More on good things later!) Stephanie's hubby had recommended BLUE to an old buddy of his. When Fred told his friend that BLUE was about a polio epidemic, he discovered that his friend had had polio as a child (with painful Kenny pack treatments and all). Fred, in all their years of friendship, had never realized this. Stephanie went on to tell me that the friend's last name is Honeycutt.

Hey! that's the last name of my character, Ann Fay.

Which reminded me of another really uncanny thing that happened a few weeks ago after I gave a BLUE/Miracle of Hickory presentation at Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute. A student came to me afterward and said, "I had an aunt named Ann Fay Honeycutt and she died of polio in 1969. (or maybe it was 1967 but you get the idea!) Wowsie! It was a quick conversation but I got the impression that she had discovered this through some genealogy research.

And while I'm on the subject of uncanny BLUE things - I'll share this story from back while I was writing the book. I shared the manuscript with a friend. If you've read BLUE you know that in the book there is a woman named Lottie Scronce who had two sons killed in WWII. My friend is a Scronce so she mentioned this story to her ex who said, "I remember when those two boys were killed." Apparently he had an aunt named Lottie and his two cousins were killed in the war.

Okay, I did a lot of research and I read the newspaper and saw war casualty announcements there so it's possible that I subconsciously transferred something I read there. But I don't think so.

And I DO know I did NOT read anything in any papers about a girl named Ann Fay Honeycutt getting polio. Some things are just inexplicable...

  1. This is quite the interesting entry. I find the "uncanny blue things" very fasinating. Blue just keeps bringing new experiences and connections for you. It's good to see you writing again. Your site has been quiet for the last while.

I met a lady a few weeks ago in our Beth Moore study at HMC who said she was currently reading your books. Naomi had shared them with her. She said to tell you she is enjoying them. Another satisfied reader. Success!!!!

  2. Strange huh? Yes, my blog has been very quiet. I am enjoying getting back to it. Thanks for sharing that the woman likes my books.

At my book club the other night two women really touched me by saying how much Healing Water meant to them. One woman said, it made her a better person. The other said, "Ater I read that book, I forgave everyone I hadn't forgiven".

    Wow!
