WOO-HOOOOOO - AWARDS ARE FUN, TOO

I just learned that BLUE won the IRA (International Reading Association) Children’s Book Award for Intermediate Fiction! This award is given to an author for a first or second book (whew! – just squeaked in on that qualification!) who shows unusual promise in the children’s book field. There are more descriptors in the award manual but I’ll spare you the details! Suffice it to say, this is good for me and BLUE and hopefully for the children, too.
I’m thrilled! (You’d think a writer would come up with a more picturesque way to say she’s thrilled – how about an expression I heard on the Eastern Shore of Maryland - I’m “happy as a dead pig in the sun!”) Lovely mental image, huh?
Maybe I’ll even make my first trip to Canada as a result. The Children’s Book Awards will be presented during the IRA Convention in Toronto in May!
Thanks ever so much to the award committee and congrats to the winners in other categories. I can’t wait to see who you are!

  1. Mega Congrats.!!!!!
Don't forget if you go into Canada these days you will need a passport. I guess that applies to flying as well as crossing the border in a vehicle. I just squeaked by this summer before the passport requirement. I must work on getting one for myself.
    Happy Valentines Day!!!!
    your sis,
