SELF-IMPOSED NANOWRIMO RULE: Move that butt!

National Novel Writing Month is fast approaching and I'm developing strategies for survival.

One of them is to write in different places. After being at my desk for awhile it starts to feel like an explosion about to happen. Stuff joins me there. Mail, books, DVDs, and odd shaped things like battery operated toys (handed to me by my grands. After awhile things start to slide. My brain cannot deal with the clutter. And I don't want to tackle it either.

Fortunately my laptop provides an escape.

During NaNoWriMo I am going to write in a variety of places - on the couch while election results roll in, in the kitchen within arm's length of coffee, food and NPR. And at the diningroom table where I can admire our newly painted deck and leaves falling outside.

Assuming that November offers some warm days, I can even write in the backyard.

I love writing outside with the sound of the watergarden nearby. Unfortunately, however, my hubby turned the waterfall off yesterday. But we have a frost warning tonight and removing the pump of the watergarden is just one of the seasonal changes around here.

I am a kinesthetic learner. Moving helps me process things. Change does too. So if none of these spots work, I'll go for a real change of scenery and head for my local library or someplace that serves a stiff cup of coffee.

  1. All of those options sound inspiring. Nancy told me when she was here you like your coffee stiff. I made it too strong for her and I don't think I make mine quite as strong as yours. I like the pic of your water garden. Enjoy the falling leaves. Before too long it may be snow, at least here in Virginia. If it's going to be cold, I just as soon it snow too.

  2. Sounds like you have a great plan with lots of interesting places to write. I think the backyard spot pictured would be my fav!

  3. great idea! I'll have to try that. I tend to be glued to my desk and think I can't write away from it. but I may just try it.
