RALEIGH ROCKS! (Part 1)

I had such a great time in Raleigh the other week. First I met with the Raleigh-Wake Reading Association on Wednesday evening. We met at Meredith College for a fabulous meal (why does food always taste better when someone else cooks?) and then after a bit of hilarious inspiration from Glendia Jacobs (something to do with baked beans!) I shared my PowerPoint presentation of BLUE and historic photos of The Miracle of Hickory/our 1944 polio epidemic.

A highlight of the evening was meeting members of the Raleigh Chapter of TTA (Top Teens of America). TTA focuses on developing leadership skills in teens. This group is immersed in a variety of service ventures, including The March of Dimes (which was originally founded to assist polio patients and fund research and now benefits children with Birth Defects). The Top Teens presented books they’d collected for the Reading Association’s Gently Used Book Program.

Here’s where I got to hang with Glendia and the Top Teens of America crew.

And here’s me with Renee` Cameron who came with some BLUE fans from Harnett County! Thanks ladies for making the trip!

And especially, THANKS to Renee`, Taylor, and Donna for coaxing the technology through that weird little glitch. I'm sure you would have rather been in the food line. But you saved the day!

More to come in RALEIGH ROCKS (Part 2)
