WRITING WEDNESDAY: Talking about Writing

This morning, I was up early and out the door to spend the day with 8th graders at Gravelly Hill Middle School. After school, I did a session with parents. So you'd think that I would be hurrying on back to my nest at the end of the day.
But the atmosphere in this school is one that makes you want to soak it up! So I was busy snapping pictures of sights in the hallway. I loved their gallery of framed posters each a staff member in a READ poster.
Jenny Freudenberg and Kathy Cole - two of the 8th grade teachers.
Principal, Jason Johnson sets the positive tone in this school. His upbeat attitude permeates the building and extends to the staff and on to the students. I wish my photo were clearer because he deserves better but I was trying to avoid glare and ended up with blur! (Note the title of his book!) I met with students in the auditorium to discuss my writing/researching process for Blue and Comfort. The students were attentive and asked thought provoking questions. They really made my day with all their interest in the subjects of writing and polio.

While I was in the hall snapping photos, I took a few pics of graphic organizers the students created based on Blue.

Oh, and a few scenes from a happy lunch time with the 8th grade teaching team!
Thanks, Kathy Cole for a delicious spread. I know that every school day is full already without taking time to host an author with delicious homemade salads and complete with roses on the table.

And now I'm off to write a little. After all, this is Wednesday.

  1. Looks like another good day of author visits. They treated you like a queen I'd say. Where is this school? Is it close to HKY?
